Assessment of Changes in Functional Brain Connectivity During Depression Treatment with TMS Using Granger Causality Based Methods

نویسندگان

چکیده

Directed transfer function (DTF) method was used to assess brain connectivity disturbances in depression. The results were depicted as a model with the electroencephalographic (EEG) registration points, through which directions of bioelectric activity are defined. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is an alternative treatment for drug-resistant depression and considered restore impaired connections. combination TMS EEG allows study changes functional (FBC) non-invasive way. It found that FBC resistant patients differed more from healthy subjects than non-resistant patients. largest identified theta frequency.

Brain Functional Connectivity Changes During Learning of Time Discrimination

The human brain is a complex system consist of connected nerve cells that adapts with and learn from the environment by changing its regional activities. Synchrony between these regional activities called functional network changes during the life, and with learning of new skills. Time perception and interval discrimination are among the most necessary skills for the human being to perceive mot...

A Multivariate Granger Causality Concept towards Full Brain Functional Connectivity.

Detecting changes of spatially high-resolution functional connectivity patterns in the brain is crucial for improving the fundamental understanding of brain function in both health and disease, yet still poses one of the biggest challenges in computational neuroscience. Currently, classical multivariate Granger Causality analyses of directed interactions between single process components in cou...

Functional connectivity in a rhythmic inhibitory circuit using Granger causality

BACKGROUND Understanding circuit function would be greatly facilitated by methods that allow the simultaneous estimation of the functional strengths of all of the synapses in the network during ongoing network activity. Towards that end, we used Granger causality analysis on electrical recordings from the pyloric network of the crab Cancer borealis, a small rhythmic circuit with known connectiv...

Dynamics on networks: assessing functional connectivity with Granger causality

We consider the analysis of brain networks based on multi-electrode neural recordings. Granger causality and its spectral decomposition are used to assess the directions of dynamic interactions. The effectiveness of the method is illustrated by applying it to simulated data. Then multichannel local field potential recordings from monkeys performing a visuomotor pattern recognition task are anal...

Evaluation of Model-Based Methods in Estimating Dynamic Functional Connectivity of Brain Regions

Today, neuroscientists are interested in discovering human brain functions through brain networks. In this regard, the evaluation of dynamic changes in functional connectivity of the brain regions by using functional magnetic resonance imaging data has attracted their attention. In this paper, we focus on two model-based approaches, called the exponential weighted moving average model and the d...
